"The Golden Years of the Silver Screen"
The Original Gowns of the MGM Musical Stars!
On this page you will see VJ model the original dresses worn by the MGM movie queens. Her friend Marilyn Visel-Blue inherited these gowns from the Hollywood designer, Helen Rose. As the gowns are modelled, Marilyn tells stories about the films and the costumes worn in them, and the models sing the unforgettable songs from the scenes in which the gowns appeared.

"The Last Time I Saw Paris"
VJ models Elizabeth Taylor's gorgeous dress from the movie "The Last Time I Saw Paris". In the background, Marilyn tells the story of the scandalous low-cut bodice! If you don't remember this gown with its vivid color, it's because the movie--alas--was shot in black-and-white~! |
"The Bad and the Beautiful"
Lana Turner played the temptress in this amazing golden gown with white feathers around the hem of the dress and the matching cape, seen on the right. |

Gilda!
Rita Hayworth wore this dress for her famous "strip" (in which she didn't strip at all) to the song, "Put the Blame on Mame". The gown, designed by Jean-Louis, is made of black satin, and is held together by hundreds of eye-fasteners. |
Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend
VJ hams her way through Marilyn Monroe's infamous song about jewels vs. love, wearing this white "carwash" fringe dress and fox fur stole.

Jupiter's Daughter
Esther Williams wore this gown (above water) in the l942 film "Jupiter's Daughter", in which her co-star was Howard Keel. VJ and Howard, and his wife Judy, became close friends through the years. |
The Devil Is a Woman
Marlene Dietrich wore this sensational black velvet sheath with sable fur in Eric Von Stroheim's movie, in 1935.
All these gowns should be in a museum and under glass, as they are becoming increasingly fragile with time. It attests to the workmanship of the designers, however, that they are still wearable today!
